Should recreational vehicles be allowed on city streets? Most cities in Utah now allow certain all terrain vehicles (ATV’s) to be used on their streets. The basic part (this is not all inclusive) of the law says that, “if they are equipped with turn signals, rearview mirrors and seat belts they are allowed.”
However, there may be other things to consider before doing so. Insurance companies are not quite so cool with it. These vehicles do not have all of the safety features of a typical motor vehicle nor are they designed for turning and stopping on cement or asphalt surfaces. One thing that is very important, is they are not insured to be driven on public streets in most cases. Before doing so, contact your insurance company and get (in written form) their underwriting guidelines for use of these types of vehicles.
